The Hitchin Society arranges a programme of meetings and events throughout the year. Meetings or visits are generally held on the third Monday of the month.

The meetings always include a brief presentation and discussion on matters of interest to the Hitchin Society, including planning issues affecting the town and the surrounding area.

Unless stated otherwise, meetings are held at the Hitchin British Schools, Queen Street, Hitchin, starting at 8.00 pm, with refreshments from 7.30 pm.

Members of the public are welcome at all the Society's meetings and other events.

Forthcoming events:

16 January 2012  “Cold baths don’t work”, a talk by      Dr Mike Clarke on the history of mental health care in the Hitchin area.

20 February 2012  “Churchgate and the St  Mary’s Church Preservation Trust”, a talk by Morag Norgan.

19 March 2012  The Society’s 50th Annual General Meeting, followed by refreshments.  Starts at 8pm, and is held at the Catholic Church Hall, Nightingale Road, Hitchin.

16 April 2012  Speaker to be announced.

21 May 2012  Speaker to be announced.

Wednesday, 30 May 2012  Coach outing, exploring the towns and villages of the Chiltern Hills.

9 July 2012  Hitchin Festival event    Talk at the Sun Hotel by Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews “The Archaeology of us - looking at contemporary Hitchin”.  Tickets from Hitchin Festival box office.

20 August 2012   Social Evening - venue and time to be announced.
